OKTIBBEHA COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) — WCBI has new information on the porch collapse that sent several college students to the hospital, Saturday.

Oktibbeha County firefighters tell WCBI about 16 people were on the second floor balcony of the town home at the Highland Garden Homes Plantation, near Mississippi State University.

The second and third floors collapsed, but they say the balcony wasn’t overcrowded, and they weren’t over the weight limit.

WCBI was also told an insurance company engineer was on-site, Monday.

Sheriff’s department investigators say they didn’t find any evidence of criminal wrongdoing. They’re limited on what they can do, since Oktibbeha County doesn’t have any building codes.

WCBI reached out to county supervisors, who say they may look at building codes again since the incident, Saturday.

They will discuss their comprehensive plan at the next board meeting in December.
