TIPPAH COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) — A newly-elected Third District Circuit Court judge will be sworn in next week.

Kelly Luther will be sworn in 2 p.m. Jan. 6 at the Tippah County Courthouse, with retiring judge Robert Elliott administering the oath. Luther lives in Tippah County.

The Third District covers Calhoun, Chickasaw, Lafayette, Benton, Union, Tippah, and Marshall counties.

Luther is a Pontotoc High School, attended Itawamba Community College and graduated from Mississippi State University. He earned his law degree from the University of Mississippi School of Law. He was county attorney for Pontotoc County and city attorney for Pontotoc before working 19 years as assistant district attorney in the Third District.

As a trial court judge, Luther will serve out a four-year term. In November, he won a three-person general election and runoff  to fill the seat vacated when Judge Robert Elliott did not seek re-election.
