KILMICHAEL, Miss. (WCBI)-After six months of planning and construction, Kilmichael residents have a new health care option.

The Kilmichael Family Clinic had it’s grand-opening on Monday.

Residents like Michelle Bridges, who has to travel out of town for doctor visits,  are happy about the convenience of the new clinic.

“We went to Eupora, we’ve one to Ackerman some, and so we never really had a home doctor,” said Bridges.

Bridges said now that the Kilmichael Family Clinic is open, her family will be able to get help close to home.

“It’s convenient, it helps to be able to come to a place this close, and be able to see friendly faces and get the help that we need,” she said.

And they’ve wasted not time trying out the new clinic.

“My daughter and I both had, she had a rash and some bites on her arm, so we had that seen about, we both had strep test taken and got a shot, and meds, and all kinds of stuff,” said Bridges.

Other residents are also thrilled about the impact the new clinic will have on the city.

“Health care is a big, big issue,” said District 5 Supervisor Janet Roby-Harper. “This will impact us greatly especially the elderly, they will no longer have to travel out of town to Winona.”

“Gives them the opportunity to stay here in their own town and take care of themselves and be at home,” said Sue Stidham, executive director of the Montgomery County Economic Development Partnership.

“We actually started taking appointments last week, and we’ve had a lot of people come by and make appointments and want to just look around,” said Howard Rumore, office manager at the Kilmichael Family Clinic.

The clinic is also having an economic impact to the city.

“With this clinic opening up, I think they’re starting out with six, or seven, maybe eight employees , that’s extremely important to the sales tax and activity that goes on in our town,” said Mayor Bobby Howell.

The new clinic is operated by North Mississippi Medical Center.

There’s also a second clinic that serves the town.

Operation hours for the Kilmichael Family Clinic are Monday through Friday, from 8 A.M. to 5 P.M.
