BOONEVILLE – Rebecca Jones will go back on trial Feb. 19 charged with the shooting death of her mother, Jane.

Jones’ trial began a few months ago in Booneville, but Judge “Jim” Seth Pounds declared a mistrial on its third day when the defendant failed to appear.

This morning, Pounds set a new trial start in Booneville after Jones’ release from an Alabama hospital.

Jones’ attorney, Rob Laher of Tupelo, said today his client apparently had an adverse reaction to sleeping medications, which put her into unconsciousness for weeks.

She appeared before Pounds in Pontotoc County and then was jailed in Booneville until her trial. Her bond also was revoked, which is what Pounds said he would do when she was released from the hospital.

Jones claims she did not intend to shoot her mother in 2010 when the women argued at Jane Jones’ Prentiss County home.
