COLUMBUS, Miss. (AP) – A Lowndes County grand jury has declined to issue an indictment in the death of man being held in the local jail.

The Commercial Dispatch reports the grand jury met in August and returned no criminal charges relating to the December death of Orlando Guyton.

The 41-year-old Guyton died while in law enforcement custody on Dec. 21. An autopsy suggested he died from natural causes.

The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation looked into the death and presented its findings to the grand jury.

Authorities say Guyton was found bleeding shortly after a burglary and was treated at a local hospital. He spent two days in jail before being transported back to the hospital, where he died.

Guyton’s family commissioned a second autopsy and is waiting on the results.
