COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) — Many schools start back in the next few days, and that means it’s crunch time for those last-minute shoppers looking for school supplies.

Cassie Taylor has been searching several stores for the perfect backpack for her grandson, Dazerick’s, first day of kindergarten.

“Fred’s is our sixth store, so we finally got that clear backpack,” Taylor said.

And that was the last thing they had to get, after buying everything else from a laundry list of school supplies.

“We had to get like hand sanitizer, Kleenex, see-through backpack, uniforms, which I caught a good price for, so I didn’t really spend a lot of money here,” she said.

Taylor says she spent about $100 in all on everything Dazerick needed.

“It’s a really long list, so I was fortunate to find everything that was on the list at a reasonable price.”

She says she did well shopping this time around, but that may change next school year.

“I think the older they get, the more expensive it’s going to be, so I don’t know if i’m looking forward to that,” Taylor said.

But at least Dazerick will be going to school in style.

“The perfect backpack, the perfect uniform, everything. I want his first day to be amazing.”

“I’m glad school’s about to start,” Dazerick said.

Taylor advises other parents to start shopping for school supplies early to beat the crowds.

Dazerick will start his first day of kindergarten at Franklin Academy, August 7.
