Video: North Miss. Steel Plant Founder Dies

CHICAGO, Ill. (WCBI) — The man who was largely responsible for bringing a steel mill to Columbus has died.

John Correnti died in Chicago, Tuesday, where he was attending a board meeting. He was 68.

Correnti was serving as the CEO and chairman of Big River Steel, which is based in Arkansas.

He’s known in the Golden Triangle for bringing the original SeverCorr Steel to Lowndes County, and failed efforts to bring a rebar plant to Monroe County, and a silicon processing plant to Lowndes County.

He also helped create several steel mills in Arkansas.
