North Mississippi (WCBI) — Saturday could become one for the record books as American Pharoah bolts towards winning the Triple Crown.

It’s an achievement that hasn’t been accomplished since 1978.

Local trainer Debbi Swoope Mcvey works with horses every day And although many horse lovers don’t want to jinx his run by making a prediction, she say his chances look good.

” He definitely has an aura about him, he has proved over and over again that he does have what it takes to be a Triple Crown winner,” says McVey.

If American Pharoah does win his third derby it could help the horse racing industry, since it’s polarity has dropped the last few years.

“We really really need a Triple Crown winner,” McVey.

“If he wins, they’ll be a lot of excitement and maybe a lot more people might even consider entering the race industry,” says Owner of El Kidd, Walter Sartin.

He says it won’t be easy.

” There’s some strong contenders coming up, but this track is longer I think than the Preakness or the Churchill Downs track. He has a lot of running to do and he’s going to be meeting some fresh horses,” says Sartin.

Horses hoping to stop American Pharoah in his tracks, extending the longest streak without a Triple Crown winner.

McVey says good training and a caring team, play a big role in successful horses, but at the end of the day, it’s still a gamble.

“The only thing is, it’s who the best horse is on that given day,” says McVey.
