Noxubee, Itawamba Among Those Late With Election Returns

By The Associated Press

JACKSON — The Mississippi secretary of state’s office on Monday was still awaiting certified election results from eight of the 82 counties.

State law says counties have 10 days to certify the results and submit numbers to the state, but there’s no penalty for being late.

This past Friday was the 10th day after the Nov. 6 election.

The secretary of state’s office said it was still awaiting numbers Monday from Adams, Clay, Hinds, Issaquena, Itawamba, Noxubee, Stone and Washington counties.

Secretary of State Delbert Hosemann said last month that Hinds was one of three counties that could accept military or overseas ballots until Nov. 10. Hinds, Pontotoc and Jefferson Davis counties failed to transmit ballots to military members or U.S. citizens living overseas at least 45 days before the election.
