STARKVILLE, Miss. (WCBI) — A MSU residence hall has a new name.

Late U.S. Congressman Alan Nunnelee was honored Monday in a ceremony dedicating a residence hall in his name.

Many of Nunnelee’s colleagues and friends spoke about the late Congressman, who graduated from MSU, but they all echoed the same thing, that Alan Nunnelee loved helping people as much as he loved the Bulldogs.

Nunnelee’s family also donated some of his work to the library so future generations can learn from his accomplishments.

And starting next year, an incoming student will receive a prestigious Presidential Scholarship in Nunnelee’s name.

MSU President Dr. Mark Everett Keenum says it’s a great way to pass on Alan Nunnelee’s legacy.

“Presidential Scholarships are an investment into our future as a society, both here and in Mississippi and at the national level. The young people who are fortunate to receive a Presidential Scholarship, especially named for Alan Nunnelee will be leaders for the future,” says Dr. Keenum.

Nunnelee passed away in February at the age of 56.
