Off-Duty Trooper Dies in Amite County Accident

LIBERTY (AP) – The Mississippi Highway Patrol says an off-duty officer died when his pickup truck overturned in Amite County.

The Highway Patrol tells WLBT-TV in Jackson that 39-year-old Charles Powell of Brookhaven died on Mississippi Highway 24.

Patrol officials say Powell was alone when his truck veered off the roadway about 11:30 p.m. Thursday.

The accident is under investigation.
