Okolona Celebrates Diversity

TUPELO, Miss. ( WCBI) — There was a celebration of diversity in Okolona Saturday.

It was the first Taste of Diversity sponsored by the Okolona chapter of Jobs for Mississippi graduates.

The students researched the culture of various countries and put together a display hightlighting the country. They also prepared meals related to those cultures. LoWanda Wells-Butler was the spearhead of today’s event. She’s says it coincides with Black History Month.
“Black History Month is actually a month where we need to learn to celebrate all people.,” she says. “Being black I do celebrate who I am but I understand that I would be here had it not been for all other people and immigrants that over. America is great because we are a Smorgasbord of people,” says Wells-Butler.

She says this is the first year of the event but she is already planning for another  Taste of Diversity. She is encouraging folks to contact her if they wish to participate.
