OKTIBBEHA COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) – A family of seven is homeless after an early morning fire Wednesday in Oktibbeha County.

The fire started about 2-30 at the house on Yeates Subdivision Road.

Flames consumed the house before the Adaton Volunteer Fire Department brought the fire under control.

Everything inside was destroyed, including Christmas presents.

Vivian Jordan says a child saved them. Jordan says her grandson started coughing and that woke her daughter up.

“And when she got up, she realized the house was on fire. Smoke was everywhere. So, that basically got us up and got us out of there. My grand baby saved our lives.”

It’s believed the fire started in the attic.

The Oktibbeha Starkville Emergency Response Volunteer Services organization is assisting the family.  You can help by contacting OSERVS at 662-384-2200.
