Nathan Sinko pleaded guilty to a methamphetamine charge and accepted a 12 year sentence with the belief he would be able to eventually seek parole.  Sinko was set to be released in September 2014 based on a new state law passed in July 2014 which made some non violent drug offenders eligible for parole.  The State Parole board said that new law only applied to prisoners sentenced after July 2014 . Sinko’s attorney Jim Waide appealed that ruling to the Mississippi Court of Appeals and today that court said the sentencing and parole guidelines adopted in 2014 are retroactive.  Waide adds todays ruling is precedent setting and hundreds of non violent offenders will now be eligible for early release.
