OXFORD, Miss. (WCBI) — The University of Mississippi promotes diversity while preserving history.

Chancellor Dan Jones says two streets on the Ole Miss campus will be renamed.

A short street near Fraternity Row will be renamed Chapel Lane, after years of being Confederate Drive. Coliseum Road will now be Roy Lee Chucky Mullins Drive.

Mullins was an African American football standout, who was injured in a 1989 football game. He was left as a quadriplegic before his 1991 death.

Plaques will also be installed to explain this history behind old south symbols like the statue of a confederate soldier near the administrative building.
