OXFORD, Miss. (WCBI) – Volunteers boxed the makings for a Thanksgiving dinner Thursday at Ole Miss for the University’s annual Adopt-a-Basket food drive.

The baskets go to members of the Oxford community who need a little extra help around the holiday season. And volunteers say they are happy to make sure someone else has a good Thanksgiving.

Ole Miss student and volunteer Cara Thorne says, “Just being from so far away I know how important the holiday is and family and food just brings everyone together and um I really miss it going home and so I just wanted to make sure that other people in the community had that.”

Elise Luer also an Ole Miss student and Volunteer says, “I love coming from a university that wants to give back to the community and give back to those less fortunate and that don’t have that as I said that twenty pound turkey, you know that are just trying to get by day by day.”

The annual event has been a hit amongst students looking to lend a helping hand during the holidays.
