LOWNDES COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI)-The Columbus- Lowndes County Humane Society is taking advantage of the four day weekend. Starting the slow transition to their new facility down the road from their current one. Kittens, cats, dogs, and supplies are just a few of the items they have begun moving in. The facility is still a few weeks away from being open to the public.

“‘It’s such a wonderful feeling and really a dream come true.’ I know Karen’s told me that they’ve been working on this project for about ten years. I know the staff- past and present, the board members, and community it’s been a long time coming. And I think it’s just a great reflection for the friendly city to have a nice shelter and take good care of their animals,” said Nicole Fain a volunteer with the humane society.

Until they are officially moved in and open they will continue working out of their current building on Airline Road. A grand opening is scheduled for October.
