One Injured, One Charged in West Point Shooting

WEST POINT, Miss. — At 7:16 Thursday night, West Point police were dispatched to an address in an area of the city called “Seitz Subdivision” in reference to a shooting.

E911 reported that the caller was also requesting an ambulance because one person on the scene said he had been shot.

Police immediately responded and discovered a 19 year old male suffering from what appeared to be a gunshot wound to the abdomen. The name of the victim is not being released.

Emergency medical personnel arrived on the scene and the victim was transported to the North Mississippi Medical Center-West Point and later transferred to NMMC in Tupelo where his condition is listed as stable.

A preliminary investigation has revealed that an altercation occurred inside a residence located at 1391 Seitz Street in which several shots were fired.

Evidence collected at the scene suggests that at least two weapons were fired multiple times. Neighbors heard the shots and called 911.

Two weapons were recovered at the scene as well as numerous shell casings.

West Point Police have made an arrest in this case.

Taken into custody was 21-year-ld Johnny Walker of 607 East Morrow Street in West Point.

He is currently being held in the Clay County Jail on a charge of Aggravated Assault.

A bond amount has not been set.

Walker also has two outstanding bench warrants for traffic violations and is being held on those old charges as well.
