One Man Dead After Holiday Weekend Shooting

COLUMBIA, Miss. (AP) – One man is dead, and another is behind bars and facing a million dollar bond after a weekend shooting in Marion County.

WDAM-TV reports  29-year-old Cortney Brister died at Forrest General Hospital from what appeared to be multiple gunshot wounds he suffered in the incident.

According to authorities it happened about 4 p.m. Saturday at a home on Jones Road.

Marion County Coroner Norma Williamson says Brister’s body was sent to the State Crime Lab in Jackson for an autopsy.

Marion County Sheriff’s investigator Jamie Singley says 25-year-old Ka’Shodrick Johnson surrendered at the scene. Johnson made his initial court appearance Monday, where he was arraigned on a murder charge and bond was set.

Singley could not elaborate on what led to the shooting, saying that is still under investigation.
