One Man Wounded in Columbus Shooting

Reported by: Michelle Lowe/Andrew Harrison

COLUMBUS, Miss. – (WCBI) One man is injured after an attempted robbery at a Burgundy Drive home. Shots rang out in the Dean Acres Subdivision, just before 10:30 p.m Wednesday night.

According to Columbus Police Chief Selvain McQueen, two masked men broke into a portable building behind the home. McQueen believe the attempted robbery prompted a struggle that led to the front of the home. Lionel Hampton had been shot in the thigh, while another man walked away with a cut on his finger. McQueen also tells WCBI, the alleged shooter is named Orlando Harris, identified after his mask was pulled off by one of the men involved in the tussle.

Harris and another suspect reportedly fled the scene in a maroon Mercury Marquis. Columbus Police and Lowndes County Deputies found a vehicle matching that description at the Yorkville Apartment complex, but at last check the suspected shooter remained at large.

No word yet on the victim’s condition.
