MACON, Miss. (WCBI) – Summers seem to be shorter than ever.

Hard to believe, but school starts back for most local children next week.

The last thing children or parents want to do is fall behind.

Noxubee County High School is helping students stay ahead of the game through Operation Jump Start.

It’s the last week of Summer.

Most high school students would prefer staying as far away from school as possible.

Not the 21 teens who make up the Noxubee County Student Advisory Board.

They serve as a conduit between students and the administration.

President Marion Stewart explains, ” It has been very fulfilling, most times when we come in and when we meet, most things are changed or they are made better.”

This year the board is busy before school has even started.

They organized Operation Jump Start.

Rising senior Tamaria Clay lays it out like this, ” It gives the parent an opportunity to come out and view the schedules of their child or children and they are able to make any necessary changes they are able to get test scores, if their child has taken a test this year.”

Rising senior Jada Spann adds, ” I was at the table, and when the parents came in. I gave away schedules, and they signed their name and most parents asked about test scores, so I directed them toward the council.”

The Board helped an estimated 100 people on Wednesday(7-31), including parent Sonji Gillespie.

She says, ” And that’s my concern, to make sure all the material is laid out and taught, so that the child can receive the graph and be able to take the test and pass the test.”

The Student Advisory Board plans to make it an annual tradition.

Rising senior Sahera Wells says, ” I hope it will because is a great thing and I think a lot of people are benefiting from it.”

With a Jump Start on the School year, these seniors have high hopes for the next 9 months.

Tamaria Clay, concludes, ” I want to see 100% of my class graduate, and wether it takes peer tutoring, I’m will to do just that.”

It could happen.

Students and their families already have a jump start !

School starts back next Tuesday (8-6) in Noxubee County.
