OXFORD, Miss. (AP) – Oxford is looking at whether it should build a parking garage to ease parking downtown.

The Oxford Eagle reports (http://bit.ly/1FsjLbj ) that the city formed a commission to review the issue. The commission met last week and will meet again in October.

The group is looking at parking trends and collecting data on parking around Oxford’s Downtown Square.

Five years ago, when parking around the Downtown Square was hard to find, businesses and citizens started asking city leaders to build a parking garage.

The city hired a parking management company to ease the problem. Stricter enforcement made it easier to find parking spaces.

Then the city created its own parking department and paid parking started in September 2014. Paid parking now brings in more than $600,000 in revenue.
