Oxford Lawyer Charged With Bogus BP Settlement Claims

OXFORD, MS (WCBI) –  An Oxford lawyer faces federal wire fraud charges after he is accused of an elaborate scheme to defraud banks and individuals.  46 year old Tyler Smith, who has offices in Oxford and Batesville,  would secure loans by pledging settlements from the BP  Oil disaster as collateral.  The only problem those settlements didnt exist or had already been pledged as collateral.   The indictment claims Smith secured nearly $700,000 in loans  using the scheme.
