Oxford PD To Wear Pink In October

OXFORD, MISS (Press Release) – The Oxford Police Department will be wearing pink for the month starting Thursday, October 1 in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
“As a police department, we feel like we are very visible in the community, and we want to further our involvement with the community by supporting the causes that are important to Oxford. Our department participates in Relay for Life every year, and we want to expand on our involvement by bringing awareness to various worthy initiatives. We began with breast cancer awareness because we all have mothers, wives, sisters, and friends that either have been or could be affected by breast cancer,” Joey East, Chief of Police, says.
The bright pink undershirts that the officers will be wearing were donated by Jeff Busby and University Sporting Goods. “We were thrilled to be involved with this project and help support our police officers in bringing attention to this worthy cause.”
Breast Cancer Awareness Month takes place every year during the month of October. It is designed to not only raise awareness for individuals who have suffered from the disease, but also to encourage women to proactively check for the disease in its early stages. Throughout the month of October, individuals and organizations wear pink to support the cause and also participate in activities to increase awareness.
It would be difficult to find someone that hasn’t known anyone who has been affected by breast cancer, and a result, the Police Department would like to participate in bringing awareness to the cause and doing their part, as other organizations do.
The police officers would like to show the community that there is more to law enforcement than just enforcing the laws. The department continues to be intentional about actively pursuing positive relationships with the community. The officers support the community and would like to become more involved by supporting causes that citizens of Oxford are passionate about.
