Oxford Starting Special Downtown Patrols

OXFORD, Miss. (Police Press Release) — Beginning this weekend, the Oxford Police Department will dedicate a specialized unit of its patrol force to ensure safety in the Downtown area and maintain neighborhood integrity. This effort is in accordance with a state and federally funded grant that is designed to focus on specific “hotspots” and general crime reduction in a dedicated area.

Police say the goal with this grant is to raise the standard of behavioral expectations in and around the downtown Square Area. Officers will have an increased presence and focus is to be proactive in preventing any disturbances, unsafe activities or violations within businesses as well as in public.

The department also wants to ensure that neighborhood residents near the Square continue to enjoy the quality of life that the City of Oxford provides them. The department says if you are out late and coming home, be aware that officers will have extra patrols.
