Oxford Targets Sunday Parking

OXFORD, Miss. (AP) – Oxford police will no longer overlook illegal parking on Sundays around the Square – a result of members of many churches in a concentrated area vying for the same parking spots.

Police Chief Joey East tells the Oxford Eagle (http://bit.ly/YC6CjG ) that people have been parking on both sides of the street and on other areas not normally used for parking for years.

East says now with Oxford’s population growing, continuing to allow the illegal parking has turned into a safety issue.

East says officers have put flyers on the cars parked along the streets, informing them that Oxford’s parking rules will begin being enforced in March.

Some churches are providing shuttles from larger parking lots on the Square to their churches.
