LOWNDES COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) — Lowndes County sheriff’s investigators are holding a suspect in the death of a woman found Monday in her burned home.

The man was picked up just before 2 p.m. Friday in the area around Downs Road in northwestern Lowndes County where Gwen Roberson lived. Chief Deputy Marc Miley says formal charges are likely this weekend or Monday.

He said he could not release other details while detectives continue to work on the case.

Detectives have been scouring the area almost non stop for the last two days looking for clues and interviewing neighbors after an autopsy ruled Roberson’s death a homicide.

She was last seen leaving her aunt’s home about a mile from her Downs Road residence at about 11 Sunday night. She was riding her bike, like she usually did. At 3 Monday morning, neighbors reported her trailer engulfed in flames.

Detectives have not said how she died but have said it wasn’t from smoke or fire.
