Pittsboro Mayor: State Senator Responsible for City Not Getting Legal Beer Sales

PITTSBORO, Miss. (WCBI) — Don’t look for Mississippi Senator Joey Fillingane, of Sumrall, to be on the Pittsboro Christmas card list anytime soon.

Pittsboro Mayor Rita Bullard called out Fillingane during Tuesdays board meeting and said he is responsible for the city not getting legal beer sales.

Bullard said because Fillingane didn’t want legal beer in Sumrall, he intentionally left beer out of the legislation allowing county seats to vote on alcohol sales.

While beer is still forbidden, package stores are now legal and can be opened once the state tax commission OKs the permits.
