MACON, Miss. (WCBI) – Ensuring a fair election, poll watchers returned to Noxubee County on Tuesday.

The Mississippi Secretary of State and Attorney General’s office sent the watchers.

For several years, federal poll watchers were sent to the county.

Over 13% of the more than 9,300 people on Noxubee County’s voter rolls have voted absentee.

Noxubee County Circuit Clerk Freda Phillips says 948 absentee ballots have been cast.

However, state ordered poll watchers are not uncommon on election day.

They are usually sent to various counties throughout the state.
