Video: Pontotoc County Gets New Inmate Work Center

PONTOTOC COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI)-Pontotoc County many be one of the last to receive federal-state approved inmate jail. It the past decades work centers for inmates have had trouble filling holes due to a lack of experienced inmates. Pontotoc County was able to build a new work center next to the jail allowing the county to keep state inmates local. The new work center was built at a very low cost by moving an existing county owned building and used inmate labor to finish construction. The state will pay the county $20 dollars a day per housed inmate which will help bring in an additional $190,000 dollars a year plus around $480,000 dollars a year in free labor. The jail’s maximum occupancy is seventy-two inmates.
