Pontotoc Native Inducted into Songwriters Hall of Fame

PONTOTOC, Miss. (WCBI) — His muffed play turned touchdown run that led to victory over Mississippi State in 1962 is still the thing of legend among Ole Miss football fans. But instead of parlaying his gridiron stardom into a pro football career, Pontotoc native Jim Weatherly chose a different path in life.

Now, one of Nashville’s most successful songwriters, he will be inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame. Weatherly has written such classics as “Midnight Train to Georgia,” Where Shadows Never Fall,” and “A Lady Like You.” Everyone from Reba McEntire and Garth Brooks to Neil Diamond have recorded his songs.

The Hall of Fame Induction is in June in New York City.
