‘PoPsy’ Provides Healthy Alternative To Traditional Popsicles

TUPELO, MISS. (WCBI) – A Tupelo business is gaining traction, one sweet treat at a time. WCBI’s Allie Martin introduces us to a young businesswoman, who, with the help of her boyfriend, is bringing tasty, healthy cool snacks to the area.
On a recent Thursday night, during the “Down on Main Concert” series at Fairpark, Chance Beck was doing a brisk business.

Chance is co owner of “PoPsy”, the gourmet frozen treat company she started with her boyfriend.

She works out of a small retail space, where each “PoPsy” is handmade.

“They’re not regular popscicles, they are made with fresh fruit, we use organic sweeteners, we break down the fruit,” Beck said.

After everything is mixed, Chance pours the healthy concoction into molds, and the PoPsys are put into the “Turbo 8” high performance popscicle machine, imported from Brazil.Each PoPsy is sealed by hand, one at a time.

The treats are put into the freezer. Chance has about 2,000d Popsys ready for a couple of big events.

“You don’t want to run out.” she said.

If you have a craving for a PoPsy, you don’t have to wait until there’s a ball tournament, a flea market, or a festival. Here at 1989 McCullough, you can buy a Popsy, although there are no signs on the building, that will soon change.

“We would like to have this, a storefront where people can stop by, I ‘m going to have a chalkboard menu, display freezers,” Beck said.

PoPsy is almost 18 months old, and Chance Beck says there have been a lot of challenges.

“You have event fees, taxes, and there is so much more, I’ve always had respect for small business owners, you wear a lot of hats, and do a lot of things,” she said.

Chance says she enjoys offering healthy snacks and she also gets to sample all of the flavors.

“My all time favorite is coconut, but it changes constantly, right now, banana pudding,” Chance said.

Right now, Chance has two mobile carts, but she hopes to expand her company’s reach, one PoPsy at a time. Birmingham.
