STARKVILLE, Miss. – Tennessee Valley Authority crews will use an overnight power outage in Starkville on Sunday, June 23, to complete a $20 million power line improvement project to increase reliability and economic development possibilities.

During the five-hour outage, scheduled from 12:01 a.m. until 5 a.m. CDT, crews will connect a second source of electricity to the city. TVA crews tied in a new 4.5-mile line in May, but then took the city’s original line out of service for upgrades. The June 23 outage will put both lines into service.

The new second line will increase service reliability and the amount of power that can be brought into Starkville to help civic leaders attract and grow new businesses.

In addition, TVA also recently completed a Clayton Village 161-kilovolt switching station adjacent to 4-County Electric Power Association’s Lakeside 161-kV substation offering similar benefits.

“TVA wants to thank the City of Starkville and its residents for their understanding as we complete this work,” said John Malone, general manager of Customer Service for TVA in Mississippi. “This is an important connection for the Golden Triangle and we are excited about the possibilities this second source of power could bring the area.”
