Public Hearing Set on West Point Districts

WEST POINT, Miss. (WCBI) — West Point residents can offer thoughts on the city’s new proposed five council districts Tuesday night.

The board of selectmen will hold a public hearing on the plan at 5:30 Tuesday evening at City Hall. The city’s redistricting consultant will outline how the proposed districts have been altered to meet population shifts found in the 2010 Census.

Once approved by the board, the plan must be submitted to the Justice Department for approval. If approved by next March’s qualifying deadline, the new district lines will be used for next year’s city elections.
