Columbus, Miss. (WCBI) — Quilters from across the region are getting prepared for the American Quilter’s Society’s Ultimate Guild Challenge.

The group is known as the Possum Town Quilters.

The Ultimate Guild Challenge, which takes place in Grand Rapids, Michigan, is where quilters can send their best work to be judged and possibly win money.

1st place wins $1,500, 2nd place wins $1,000, and third place wins $750.

Each guild is required to enter 8 entrees, and then that guild is selected by a group of judges.

The Possum Town Quilters were one of the guilds to be selected, entering their “Southern Magnolia Flower” themed quilts.

“It’s very exciting to have ours accepted…”, says club vice president Lauren Hutchins, “…it’s quite an honor to hang in any AQS show.”

Started back in 2007, the Possum Town Quilters are made up from people from all over Mississippi as well as Alabama.

“It’s great to be in this group because we have so many accomplished quilters that we learn so much from each other…”, says club president Carol James.

When the group isn’t preparing for the Ultimate Guild Challenge, they also make quilts for new homes built by Habitat for Humanity as well as other charitable causes.

They meet the 2nd and 4th Saturday of every month and are accepting new members all the time.
