STARKVILLE, Miss. (WCBI) – Some Starkville High School students get a lesson in budgeting that should pay-off after graduation.

Young people in economics classes and the J-R-O-T-C did some shopping at the Reality Fair Wednesday (4-17).

Students were assigned occupations with annual salaries, then made to stick on a monthly budget.

Family situations and unforeseen expenses played roles in how the teens managed their money.

Freshman Kaylin Williams says,  “Things may come up when you have less money to use. It really is harder than we think it is. Money does not grow on trees. I can assure you of that.”

Senior Payton Wolf  says, ” Everything was very expensive. Yea, just the little things that get thrown at you that you got to pay for.”

The MSU extension service set up the reality fair and manned the stations.
