CHOCTAW, Miss. (WCBI) -The Choctaw Community came out Wednesday(5-15) evening to welcome Red Hills Operations to the county.

Choctaw County’s new power plant has new tenants. Red Hills and Pure Energy are taking over operations. Community leaders and residents gathered to celebrate the new deal.

“So far they’ve been very active in our community with the sponsoring of some events and they’ve went through the town of Ackerman and replanted a lot of the pots and flowers and just beautifying out street, Main street and so far it’s been a very good partner with out county,” said Chris Mcintire, President of the Board of Supervisors in Choctaw County.

Red Hills is a subsidiary of Southern Company. New plant manager Keith Cuevas says they have big plans for the power plant.

“Southern Company is going to invest up to 60 million additional dollars into some of the existing equipment to upgrade it and into some new equipment so were going to bring the plant up to speed to where it performs like it is designed to perform,” said Plant Manager Keith Cuevas.

With Red Hills being the new operator several changes are on the way.

They hope increase efficiency, add jobs and help the local economy.

“It’s going to keep people employed, increase the jobs and it’s going to support our power plant in Choctaw County and I’m looking forward to the economic impact it’s going to have on our area,” Joey Hood, District 35 State Representative.

It’s an investment that will mean a bright future for the plant and the county.

Pure Energy has a track record of turning around troubled energy assets.
