Columbus, Miss. (WCBI) — Residents from Ward six met with Columbus police representatives and Ward six city councilman Bill Gavin in an introductory meeting to start a neighborhood watch.

Community Relations Officer Rhonda Sanders and Captain Brent Swan answered any questions residents had, and also gave them the necessary tools to help set up their watch.

“Everything is based on relationships…”, said Ward six resident Ken McCool, “…when you have a relationship with your city, your policemen, and with your neighbors, you look out for one another…it’s like a family, and that’s what we need to do is look out for each other.”

Sanders is also looking forward to the new neighborhood watch, and is hoping to set up something for August 2nd of this year, which is known as National Night Out Against Crime.

Sanders also said she is working with residents throughout Ward six to set up future meeting and establish lines of communication.

Ward six now joins Ward three, four, and five as wards that have Columbus police-recognized neighborhood watch programs.
