Residents Look to Rent Bridge in Columbus

COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) – The newly renovated bridge in Columbus is getting a lot of attention from residents. Now some are asking to rent it.

The Associated Press reports that Frank Goodman, the City Property Manager and Director of the Trotter Convention Center, there have been numerous phone calls from people interested in holding wedding receptions on the bridge.

The city recently restored the bridge with a $2 million price tag.

The Columbus City Council is likely to approve a fee schedule for renting the bridge at its next meeting.

A proposal calls for a fee of $800 to completely close the bridge for up to six hours, along with a $300 security deposit.

Anyone who rents the bridge would have to obtain insurance, including coverage if alcoholic beverages are served.

Renters would have to remove trash and other items afterward.
