AMORY, Miss.(WCBI)– A reported tornado touched down in Amory Monday morning.

Tearing down trees and damaging houses, but luckily there are no fatalities.

Roger Carter and his wife were watching WCBI’s First Alert Weather team’s storm coverage Monday morning.

“We were watching channel 4 ,” says Carter.

And then …

“The sirens started going off,” says Carter.

His wife, ran down to the local shelter, he stayed behind.

“I thought I heard a roaring ,and then I heard a big boom and the whole house shook,” says Carter.

When he got outside, he saw this, a giant oak tree through the top of his home, despite how bad it looks, Carter says crews were quick to check on them.

“With in a half of hour everyone responded quickly, ” says Carter.

and clean up started right away.

“They were here in about ten minutes and we started cutting limbs to stop water damage, ” says Carter.

That same sense of urgency echoed through the local emergency management agencies.

“We did a hasty search, confirmed no fatalities, no injuries and no one was trapped in their homes, ” says Robert Goza with Monroe County Emergency Management.

Goza says it’s still too soon to know how bad the city wide damage is.

“The first step, the city needs to do an assessment, get some numbers, concrete numbers, and we’ll go from there, ” says Goza.

And adds now is a good reminder to always have a storm plan.

“Have a preparedness plan, food and supplies for three days, ” says Goza.

Carter is glad the city had their plan in place, so his family can start moving forward, one branch at a time.

“Very grateful, very very grateful, ” says Carter.
