Video: Ripley is Going Wet
RIPLEY, Miss. (WCBI) – A battle of religion versus revenue is finally over.
Ripley is the latest Mississippi town to allow the sale of beer, wine and liquor.
862 people voted in favor of the sale of liquor and wine.
711 voted against it.
Meanwhile, 862 people also voted in favor of the sale of beer and light wine.
676 voted against it.
There are not enough affidavit or curbside ballots to make a difference in either race.
The Tippah Baptist Association and churches squared off against liquor supporters.
Voters apparently feel that alcohol sales will keep more tax dollars at home and attract more business to town.
It will be early October before Ripley retailers are licensed to sell alcohol.
Corinth and New Albany have both gone wet recently, and a vote may soon be held in Pittsboro.
