COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) – Columbus street improvements continue.

Now, at least 75 percent of the project is complete.

5th Street North, along with portions of Bluecutt Road have recently been paved.

Last year, city leaders approved a $5 million bond issue for paving and other infrastructure improvements all six wards.

Each ward received $750,000.

Work is expected to be done by the end of the year.

Most of the paving is done but there are other street improvements to complete.

“Things like curb and gutters, sidewalks, drainage; all associated with the roadway. But most people just think of overlays and asphalt and striping, but these are going to be more pedestrian friendly,” Neel-Schaffer Project Manager Kevin Stafford.

Councilman Charlie Box says paving work will soon begin on Shelley Road, a rare gravel road in the city.
