Roof Fire Halts Traffic in Downtown Columbus

COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) — Traffic in Downtown Columbus came to a halt Saturday afternoon due to a fire scare.

Columbus fire officials say the fire started on the corner of Main Street and 5th Street South on the roof of the old Ruth’s building.

Building owners were illegally burning an old cooler when the plastic caught fire.

They were able to put the fire out with a fire extinguisher before fore fighters arrived on scene.
