Row Crops Field Day Offers Education, Tours

VERONA, Miss. (Press Release) — The North Mississippi Research and Extension Center’s Agronomic Row Crops Field Day on Aug. 7 will present the latest research to area farmers and consultants.

The field day will be from 8 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Lee County Agri-Center Magnolia Conference Center on Highway 145 South in Verona.

The program will include educational and industry exhibits and field tours of research plots. This year’s featured speakers will be Michael R. Sullivan, state executive director for the U.S. Department of Agriculture Farm Service Agency, and Kurt Readus, state conservation officer with USDA Natural Resource Conservation Service.

The program begins with registration at 8 a.m., and field tours begin at 8:30 a.m. Topics include industry developments, cotton varieties, latest situations in Mississippi row crops, corn and soybean irrigation, Dicamba and 2,4-D cotton systems, corn planting dates and population impact on yield, soybean planting date and latitude influence on choosing the appropriate maturity group, and corn and soybean crop residue management and tillage impact on soil quality yield.

Certified Crop Advisers’ continuing education credits will be offered.
