Salute to the Military, Ceremonies Across Columbus Held

COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) — It is the true meaning of Memorial Day. Thursday afternoon, airmen paid tribute those who have made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom.

The somber ceremony at the Columbus Air Force Base included the lowering of the flag. Taps were played and a 21 gun salute was included.

The event was part of their Memorial Day Retreat.

Local veterans also paused to remember their time in the service. Veterans and supporters stopped by the Columbus Municipal Complex for the quarterly Veteran’s Ceremony.

Thursday afternoon’s keynote speaker was Randy Jones.Jones, a Vietnam Veteran, is currently the Chief Administrative Officer for the City of West Point.

They also recognized 94-year old Jessie Cobb. Cobb served in World War II
