COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) -It was an eventful Saturday morning at Walmart in Columbus as the Salvation Army truck posted up to receive toys for the less fortunate.

This is the first year the Salvation Army has partnered with Walmart to give back. The truck was parked out front ready to receive any toys and coats that customers wanted to donated. One long time employee remembers what the Salvation army did for her growing up.

“I remember as a child growing up our parents not having a lot of money and the Salvation Army helped us so what a better way. The Lord called me into the ministry to serve people and help others in the community and we teach our children that. Our son is out here today and each of out children have taken an angel off the tree to purchase gifts for them as well as a way of showing them the importance of giving back to people that are less fortunate than us,” said Major Tonya Roberts.

The toys will be going to over 800 children involved in the program that are looking forward to having a gift to open on Christmas day.
