Sav-A-Life Obstacle Race

HATLEY, Miss. (WCBI)-Life is made up of many obstacles. It’s is not about how fast you get through them, but how you approach them. That is why Sav-A-Life of Monroe County is trying to raise funds in an unique way.

Sav-A-Life is an organization geared at helping teens and the house programs on everything from teen pregnancy to drug use.

Saturday’s fundraiser looked like a mini Warrior Dash.

The 1st Farmer’s Run was held at Crook Farms in Hatley where participants had to run 1.5 miles that covered several different obstacles to conquer.

Participants walked across the top of huge hay bales, crossed through a freezing cold pond and had different obstacle to jumped over. Kevin Crook, the event coordinator, came up with the idea to help raise funds for Sav-A-Life after participating in a larger but similar race. Dana Copeland, the director of the organization says Saturday’s event is another way they are reaching out to the community.

“We started in 98′ doing crisis pregnancy ministry we do free confidential pregnancy tests, but as we started seeing the need in the community we started doing family oriented services then we started doing youth programs, abstinent, drug, alcohol and bullying programs so we’re all about preserving life and strengthening families,” says Dana Copeland.

Ninety-Five percent of the proceeds will go towards Sav-A-Life’s programs such as abstinence and bullying for youth. The organization is also hoping to purchase an Ultra-sound machine.
