School District to Add Playground Cameras

PASCAGOULA, Miss. (AP) – The Pascagoula school system plans to install surveillance cameras at all 10 of its elementary school playgrounds.

The decision comes after a 5-year-old kindergartner was injured on the playground at Arlington Elementary School.

The school district and police both investigated.

The school district says the child fell from playground equipment while four adults were present, and no other children were involved.

A police department statement says authorities determined the child was injured in a playground accident.

A district spokeswoman says all schools have security cameras, but elementary schools generally don’t have cameras on the playgrounds.

District leaders say Cherokee Elementary does have playground cameras due to vandalism a few years ago.
