COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) — The Columbus school board has refused to rehire former finance director Kenneth Hughes.

The decision came after a six-hour executive session Tuesday in which board members discussed Hughes, school properties and other issues.

Hughes spent 18 years with the district before being fired by former superintendent Dr. Martha Liddell in May for undisclosed reasons.

He appealed the firing to the board but just days before a hearing on his appeal was scheduled last week, Hughes withdrew his appeal and asked to be rehired.

The board rejected that request Tuesday.
