Video: Search Ends for Columbus Suspect

COLUMBUS, Miss. – (WCBI)He escaped custody from a Lowndes County Constable. What followed, took most of Monday afternoon and the help of Columbus Fire and Rescue.

The call initially came in around noon, after the suspect reportedly escaped the constable’s custody. After fleeing from the car, the suspect, who’s name has not yet been released, jumped into the Luxapalila Creek behind the Palmer Home Thrift Store.

The Columbus police officer who was pursuing him reported that he had not seen him come back the surface after he entered the creek.

The Columbus rescuers spent the next few hours searching the swift water by boat. Columbus Fire and Rescue called off the search just after 4 pm.

A short time after that, the man’s mother contacted authorities and reported that he was safe, according to scanner reports.
